How to Set Track Tyre Pressures
The best way to set track tyre pressures is to work backwards from your desired hot pressure. Cold pressure is only the starting point.
Step 1: Choose a target hot pressure
Different tyres like different operating windows. Semi-slicks and track-focused tyres often work at lower hot pressures than normal road tyres.
Step 2: Estimate the cold pressure
Use ambient temperature, expected tyre temperature, session length and track condition to estimate your starting cold PSI.
Step 3: Measure immediately
Do not wait ten minutes after coming off track. Pressures drop quickly as the tyre cools.
Step 4: Keep records
Record track, date, tyre, cold pressure, hot pressure and weather. This builds your own setup database.
