How to Read Tyre Temperatures

Last updated: 3 July 2026 · Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

Tyre temperatures help explain what the pressure reading cannot show on its own. A pressure gauge tells you the air pressure. Temperature readings show how the tyre is working across the tread.

Inner, middle and outer readings

Take readings across the tyre: inner, middle and outer. A hot middle can suggest over-pressure. Hot shoulders can suggest under-pressure, lack of camber or too much sliding.

Be consistent

Pressure and temperature together

The useful answer usually comes from combining both. A tyre can show the right pressure but still have poor temperature spread if alignment or driving style is wrong.
