Nitrogen vs Air for Track Tyres

Last updated: 3 July 2026 · Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

Nitrogen can reduce moisture content and may make pressure behaviour more repeatable, but it is not magic. For most track-day drivers, careful measurement matters more than the gas in the tyre.

Why people use nitrogen

Why air is usually fine

A good gauge, consistent checking and proper notes will normally make a bigger difference than switching to nitrogen. Plenty of quick track-day cars run normal air perfectly well.

The practical answer

Use what you can manage consistently. If you cannot refill nitrogen at the circuit, air may be the more useful option.
